To me, the fatal weakness of obsidian, after trying it for 5 min to realize it, is sync functionality. It only supports icloud sync and its paid sync.
This is turn down 100%.
- drodil 5y agoJust get the git plugin and create private repo somewhere. Problem solved
- luxpir 5y agoOr syncthing. I already had it set up between phone, pi and PC, so threw the notes dir into there. Now free to switch between desktop and mobile with quasi instant updates.
- rodneyzeng 5y agoyou can do this in obsidian mobile app?
- Havoc 5y agoThink parent is talking about desktop. On iOS working copy works to sync against git but it’s a little manual
- DavideNL 5y agoYou can sync the folder (=vault) with any tool you prefer… including git.
- rodneyzeng 5y agoyes but this is not feasible on obsidian mobile app, right?
- rovr138 5y agoCurious, what kind of sync are you wanting for the mobile app?
- rodneyzeng 5y agoi am hoping, like onenote, a note taking system that i can use on computer and mobile devices and sync to each other, easily. This is very natural need.
- da5is 5y agoI did it just fine for the cost of the license of Working Copy syncing to a iCloud folder. But the Obsidian license still made me end up going over to LogSeq, which works better for my mental model.
- DavideNL 5y agoYou can use the “Working Copy” app on iOS to sync to Git, not sure if there are other apps too… https://twitter.com/WorkingCopyApp/status/1442499883026419716?s=20 https://twitter.com/WorkingCopyApp/status/144249988302641971...
- zikzak 5y agoI'm just using Google Drive with the files the app uses on Windows and mobile (using FolderSync for Android). I'll probably try out the git plugin soon so I can use it easily with Linux but was trying to use Obsidian without and additional plugins for a while as I'm just trying it out.
