Show HN: Computer Engineering for Babies Book
- mysterydip 5y agoLooks like the perfect book for my toddlers that love light switches. One question I don't see answered is what type of battery is it? We are trying to avoid coin batteries with their curious mouths.
- crobertsbmw 5y agoIt uses a small CR2320 battery. To access the battery you'll need to remove a sticker on the back cover, and then the battery is glued in with hot glue, so you'll need some pliers to remove the glue, and then you'll need a small tool to push the battery out of the circuit board. Rest assured, it's not going to be an easy battery to remove.
- 1024core 5y agoWith children, that's a risky belief.
- crobertsbmw 5y agoYeah, this hadn’t really occurred to me when I initially designed it. But it’s now my largest concern as well.
- harperlee 5y agoMost baby books with sound use a plastic case with a screw for button battery safety.
- mandmandam 5y agoCongratulations on your success with this! If shipping to my country weren't $20 I'd order one like a shot. Would you mind telling me how you rate Jellop? I see them on a lot of successful Kickstarters, and would love to hear about the real experience of them.
- crobertsbmw 5y agoThey have been great. I feel like they run a good honest transparent operation. I think they are also pretty picky about which projects they take on; I applied before the campaign and they didn’t want to get on board, but that changed after the project raised 150k.
- mandmandam 5y agoOh wow, you raised 150k without them? Nice work!
- crobertsbmw 5y agoYeah, someone stole my video and posted it on LinkedIn and it just blew up over there. I got super lucky to be honest…
- crobertsbmw 5y agoThanks for posting this! I’m the guy behind the project, and I’ll try to answer any questions about the project here.
- miccah 5y agoNice job! From the video it looks like many of the pages share the same buttons. I'm curious how you detect which page is open to operate the corresponding circuit?
- detaro 5y ago@OP: Show HN is for things you (i.e. the person submitting) made, and also explicitly not for crowdfunding: https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html
- crobertsbmw 5y agoI’m not the OP, just the project owner. Although I did do a Show HN when it launched.
- detaro 5y agowhich is why addressed OP with my comment.
- crobertsbmw 5y agoOops. Reading comprehension has never been my strong suit.
- detaro 5y agoNo problem. Fun project by the way :)
- karmakaze 5y agoI love the 'fridge light' NOT page. It wouldn't take much more to make this useful for older people, e.g. farther non-obvious separation of buttons (e.g. across pages), or in time. Humans are really bad about associating unrelated things from too few samples or missing recurring things just outside our window of attention.
- quickthrower2 5y agoNice. And why didn’t I think of this? Ha ha!
