You gain the value of whatever service you’re using. It’s the same approach of monetizing a site with ads, except instead of “paying” for the site with your data or eyeballs, you’re paying with your bandwidth. I actually quite like this idea. Any site/app/etc that is free has to make money, at the very least to pay for infrastructure, and I find this a lot less invasive than surveillance, and not “arrogant” at all.
