if you want a good green apple buy a newtown pippin.
- quesera 5y agoI like 'em crisp and tart (and cold), so Granny Smith from the refrigerator is my default. I recall Newtown Pippins being a bit sweeter than I like, but I understand they vary. Is there a time of year, or another way to select for tartness?
- Tagbert 5y agoI use the Granny Smith for cooking but not as an eating apple. They have a good texture and tartness for pies and apple sauce but they are not what i would want to eat raw.
