  The majority are also available on HTTP. It saves a lot of confused users at other government / scientific institutions, where the firewall blocks FTP.

    Even accounting for that (ignoring that the data served over FTP and HTTP aren't always perfectly equivalent), it still leaves a lot of stuff that is only served over ftp. That doesn't mean I'm against deprecation completely. But you can't pretend it won't affect people
