      What do you mean by "modern left"? The left that I know (I myself am a socialist) is largely against the nonsensically puritanical restrictions that Griffinsauce mentioned.

        The leftist woke mobs are the ones who went after that professor (and many others). Travel too far right or left and authoritarianism is always the result.

    For being non-religious the current left is surprisingly puritanical themselves.
