- ggm 6y agoBelt-and-Road is trade war by other means. As is the investment in the pacific island economies (help == votes on a nation-state basis in the UN processes) and in Africa (we get the coltan, you get the money: we don't care about your human rights) In australia, we're about to pass enabling legislation to let the federal government prevent states and territories signing to belt-and-road without federal oversight. Without insulting India or Kashmir,Nepal/Bhutan, I think this kind of "no, not unless we say so" thing, is not that different really. India knows it has to deal with capital investment led state risks. From a finance side, this is called "soverign risk" but from a sovereign state side: what else is it, to be a nation-state? don't you get to say "no" to these initiatives, inside you (enclaves or states or disputed territories)
