Proud owner and runner of a lackrack here at home myself. I used this guide to get me started.
Mine ultimately is 2 lack tables, one on top of the other, with poplar square dowels in the legs for structural strength. I'm able to run 1" furring strips from the back legs to the front legs - voila - rails. I get about 12U on mine, built for <$50 USD
