So, I should navigate to an external webpage (which can include other forms of tracking) to unsubscribe from an email that was unsolicited? Personally, I'd rather just flag it as junk/spam.

"if you subscribe to a list" makes it pretty clear that it was not unsolicited. If you're receiving unsolicited marketing emails, that is the literal definition of spam.

Again, I’m talking about something you signed up for/subscribed to. Random emails are... random.
