What happens when Glenn fails to conform to Substack's standards?
To my knowledge Substack hasn't censored yet, but it's inevitable. Glenn should just start his own site, in my opinion.
- umvi 6y agoHosted with whom? Some private company no doubt that could be pressured to censor if a big enough twitterstorm came along.
- IshKebab 6y agoUltimately you just need to own a domain. You have to get pretty damn extreme before domains are confiscated.
- luckylion 6y agoWithout Cloudflare & co, your domain will exist but your site won't be usable.
- IshKebab 6y agoThere are many many hosting providers. You are unlikely to get banned from all of them.
- luckylion 6y agoA hosting provider without strong DDOS-protection does not make your site work, and they will quickly kick you out when their infrastructure suffers because of attacks against your site. CF & co can protect against DDOS primarily because they fight tooth and nail and weather the storm when a customer is attacked. Attackers know that they won't succeed, that's why they don't even try, and that's why CF doesn't have to deal with constant attacks against their clients. Your average hosting company will quickly fold against a large attack, and will then have to make a decision: suffer the attack, or kick you from their servers. It's obvious that they will kick you out. Keeping a website available against opponents with some money to spend gives you a handful of companies that you can rely on.
- darkerside 6y agoYou seriously think AWS or Google is going to shut down a private independent journalism website because of a Twitter storm? When has that happened in the past that makes it remotely possible?
- umvi 6y agoIf Cloudflare can be pressured to withdraw hosting for Daily Stormer, it's not hard to imagine AWS withdrawing hosting for Daily Stormer as well.
- skinkestek 6y agoWell, there is room for a small continent between Gleen Greenwald and that nazi paper. Repeat to remove all possibility of misunderstanding: DS is a nazi paper. Glenn Greenwald is a aeard winning journalist.
