Using random factors in election is a really old practice going back to Athenian Democracy at least.. It's known as Sortition.
- DRMacIver 15y agoBoth of which terms are explicitly used in the article. :) However this is not a sortition. It's an application of random-dictator to the problem of electing a per-constituency representative. This turns into a sortition only in the degenerate case where everyone runs and votes for themself.
