These letters come across as the company being a jerk, but in most jurisdictions one has to aggressively defend your trademark or you can lose it by others showing its in common use without objection. If it’s a legit purpose and not some scam site then often they can just work out some sort of “license” to use the name so all can live happily ever after. Taken out of context these letters can paint a different picture (not saying that is or is not what is happening here but more generally what often happens).
