I'm trying to learn more about RoR and it's ecosystem by modifying the twitter example to be a neighborhood social network using GMaps, etc. It's a WIP with no effort put into the front-end yet ( http://neckowoods.heroku.com http://neckowoods.heroku.com ) It seems that a lot of folks have attempted to capture this space without anyone being dominant. If you'd like to help out with whatever, let me know :)
