This got me thinking of the connection to ageism. Sure, a younger person might be hired over an older candidate for reasons that are legitimate: maybe the more senior person wants too much money, or maybe the hiring powers-that-be want to bring in someone who can "grow with the company". But occasionally, I suspect these reasons become convenient excuses to go with the younger, more attractive, reasonably-qualified candidate.
