A google job is like the top 1-3%. The vast majority of people don't make anywhere near that much. second, it's not about hatred for immigrants. It's just about jobs and housing. And, there's simply not enough of those to go around. I mean, sure we could have more immigrants. But, make no mistake, it will reduce the amount high end jobs available and reduce the housing supply even more. And, actually, most blue states are very welcoming to new immigrants which is especially ironic since they're the ones that don't want to support the housing growth needed to house an increase in population.

This doesn't address GPs question about why, if local talent is plentiful, companies are willing to spend a lot of money and jump through several hoops to pay top dollar to immigrants when they could pay the same to a local and not have to spend extra money and effort.

    This is an extremely rude, blatantly false, offensive, degrading, and insulting comment to make about the 1 million+ high-skilled workers in the US. Plenty of people own homes, start families, etc. But, I'm not too disturbed/bothered anymore -- as I've come to expect these sort of low-effort low-quality dishonest, hateful/insulting comments due to xenophobia.   Because, in essence, they get servitude from far more of those foreign hires than they do from the locals who can confidently exercise their rights.

(It's kind of sad how these xenophobic comments are common here.) > they get servitude Never has this been true about me, or the people I know. I've left jobs I disliked, and taken up new jobs. Also, in case you were unaware: yes, we can change jobs. And, yes, there's paperwork to be filed to do so, but the majority of tech companies are willing to do it. The solution to even a hypothetical "servitude" situation would be stop issuing such restrictive covenant visas, and instead give people green cards / permanent residency (like Canada does). However, people who despise immigrants will stop at the former, and vehemently oppose the latter. > foreign hires Also, most of these people aren't "foreign hires" as you say. They're often people who've studied here, are often people who've been in the US for over decade (like myself). The fact that the US makes it nearly impossible to get green cards (and therefore citizenship) is what forces people to be on visa for a long time (and sometimes even forever).       I hate to break it to you but I'm not an American. You've responded in bad faith with nothing but nonsense and wildly untrue accusations. Also, I am very familiar with H1Bs and their application, as well as the companies that use them. Your anecdote isn't data. Every country should be looking out for their citizens first and foremost. Not increasing the profit margins of corporations. You're not entitled to live in a different country just because you want to.

        Whether you're American or not is irrelevant. Your comments make it amply clear that you're a xenophobic bigot. And, yes, actually I feel more than 100% entitled to live in a country that has been my home for my entire adult life. I don't care if xenophobic bigots like you don't. I also support how most undocumented immigrants feel -- that they have a right to be here, and that they belong here. I condemn your miserable, nationalistic, bigoted, hateful, xenophobic and insulting attitude towards the right of people to live where they chose. Screw your attitude, and hopefully once Democrats fully win, both myself along with millions of other undocumented folks will be able to reside without being hated on.
