Where did I avoid the fact that people eat meat? And where did I avoid the fact that there are rough deaths in the wild? I addressed it specifically with "let's focus on the suffering that is CAUSED by us."
Stop eating meat is the recommendation because that is the simple solution. That is the rational argument. There is no ethical way to eat meat. I've seen zero counter arguments to that point. How can there be more of a solution? Yes there are logistics involved in getting there but that is the simple and clear solution. Accepting that is step 1, logistics of doing it is step 2. What more do you need than a simple solution?
It's also interesting that you accuse me of avoiding points then write an entire response that completely ignores the factually accurate points I have made.

I said I think you may be purposefully misunderstanding, that is not ad hominem What you wrote was "I'm not sure if you're purposely being silly or what". Also, you called the other poster a "moron". I see your account is relatively new so here is a link to the HN guidelines: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html Please have a read. They will help you have a civilised discussion on HN and you will be better able to get your point across. For example, the reason your post above was flagged to death was because of its aggressive and personal tone, not because of the opinion you express that is also held and expressed by many other posters on HN.
- bbrree66 6y agoMy response that got flagged was "This is the only reasonable response in this entire post." Clearly it was being flagged for disagreement to the HN echo chamber. There is nothing offensive or personal in that statement.
- YeGoblynQueenne 6y agoThis is the comment from your account that I say was "flagged to death": https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23236141 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23236141 It says: >> "Or we just don't eat meat..... no that's too crazy! Moron" That is not an acceptable mode of communication on HN. The flagging has nothing to do with any "echo chamber", except perhaps for the echo chamber that reverberates with the opinion that calling your interlocutor a moron is just not on in this forum.
