Some of this is necessary, I think. When you get an auto insurance quote, companies like ChoicePoint (LexisNexis) are what provide driver history (accidents, violations, insurance fraud info, etc). So it's not like they're Google/FB/Amazon using this data for ad purposes. Obviously, not all of the money comes from carriers like this, but I wanted to point out that some of it is legit.
