Agreed. And the phenomenon is not exactly new. I played around with CGOL about 35 years ago, and although I was already a fan of s-expression syntax, I still thought CGOL was great for certain applications. It's cool to see Vaughan Pratt (who designed CGOL in 1973) in the bibliography of this article. S-expression syntax seems to be very divisive. Every time I have introduced that syntax into various projects (since it's such an easy and clear solution for domain-specific languages) for the past couple of decades, I have met resistance because so many people are repelled by all those parentheses.
