I was at one point willing to pay to convert the songs to the new DRM free versions; however the US iTunes store will not accept a valid UK credit card and so no payment is possible. Apple told me to just create a new iTunes account in the UK; this however has never allowed me to use my update my iPhone apps nor to listen to the music. So much for trying to do the right thing I remain very suspect.
