At one of my previous gigs there was a big push to get out of the colo and into the cloud, part of which because of perceived “cost savings” vs running our own hardware. I think most of it was “everyone else is moving to AWS”. All I know is we never had a $30,000 “oopsie” in the data center because a dev left a bunch of stuff running they should have shut down.
