The e-Golf is a compromise. It is very difficult to add electrification to a vehicle platform built for traditional ICE cars. There is almost no space under the floors for the cells, and you can't put them up front either because the additional weight over an engine and ancillaries would create a car with a 70:30 weight distribution. This would make the car handle terribly, cause excessive tire wear and fishtailing under braking.
