Perhaps what Apple wants is to keep improving their iPhone / iPads with better ARM processors (from where the make most of the money). Just remember that they don't use the regular "off-the-shelf" ARM processor. By having even better ARM processors, they can keep having and edge over the competition. One day, they might switch Mac to ARM. But I don't see that in the short term.
