Fantastic talk. Portable Apps on Windows are a hedge against some of the angst he describes. (E.g. the part about updates changing a lot of things around or causing failure-to-launch problems). E.g., I still use WinAmp to play mp3's. It's a portable version, doesn't need installation (so I can use it on my locked-down work computer). The UI hasn't changed in 20 years. Newer file-formats can be played after adding plug-ins. I've put together a whole bunch of Portable Apps, and nowadays I first try to find a portable version of an app I need before a non-portable version.
