Was your pay hike motivating enough that you did not put enough thought (I am sure you did) for missing out on daily hands-on-experience? I am just curios about the +% delta.
- ep103 7y agoNo. My salary has increased significantly here, and is noticeably higher than the rest of the department, but not so high that there aren't still IC roles in my city that pay higher. Quite honestly, my salary has been lagging 1-2 years behind my position, for the last half decade. This is a result of advancing internally, as opposed to advancing through job hopping. I've been okay with this trade, because I've received a large amount of training and safety to fail from the people above me that I believe it to be worth the trade in terms of career advancement. In all honesty though, if you are unhappy with your day to day, no amount of money makes up for it. Hence the expression golden handcuffs.
