If you watch the PeepCode screencasts "Smash into Vim", http://peepcode.com/products/smash-into-vim-ii http://peepcode.com/products/smash-into-vim-ii, (I only watched part two) they have a .vim directory that you can use as a starter. Specifically it uses the pathogen plugin to organize the plugins into a bundle directory, which i find much nicer.
