There are two types of negative feedback. One is from people that are attempting to predict the future, and the other is from customers that actually use a product. You should only trust the feedback of customers (but not necessarily their suggestions.) You could get a better understanding by allowing a small subset of individuals to use a clean beta version of the product. That would let you know what to fix even if you do not know what to abandon.
