To me, this behavior solidifies further Google's transition into the Microsoft of the 90's role. I guess that puts them at 2020 for being virtually completely removed from innovation and fully in the role of a differentiation defeater. Microsoft could turn around and so could Google, but it's very hard when they're so established that short-term risk to profits becomes a major concern.
