Can't believe Vox would publish fake news (intentionally misleading news) like this.
EDIT: Vox photo came at an earlier time, before people started filling it up. Looks like Vox shopped a fake time-stamp onto it too.

Here is another photo, from someone closer to the end. You can see that the crowd goes all the way back.

- woofyman 10y agoI guess the Park Services photos are fake too. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/20/politics/donald-trump-barack-obama-inauguration-crowd-size/index.html http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/20/politics/donald-trump-barack-o...
- DefaultUserHN 10y agoYou literally link to a CNN article that used the same misleading photo from the Vox article. I already give you links for photos showing Obama have the same amount of people at the time of his speech as Trump have at the time of his speech.
- _delirium 10y agoThe photos you link don't seem inconsistent with the others. The two you link are from the front (stage side) looking out towards the crowd, and at a low angle so it's hard to see how far back the crowd goes, and how densely. The photos showing a smaller-than-Obama crowd are from a high angle, and from the back, looking towards the stage. Of course the front is filled in both, but the implication of the latter is that the Trump inauguration's crowds were significantly smaller, going much less far back. The official crowd estimates are consistent with that implication, estimating that Obama had over 1 million attendees, while Trump had around 250,000. Even 250,000 is a large number of people in absolute terms (larger than even the largest football stadiums hold), so from near the stage both should look like very large crowds.
