I'm not sure about any other social sites, but for facebook there's http://www.fbpurity.com/ http://www.fbpurity.com/ Browser add-on/extension that, among many other things, lets you force your news feed to sort in chronological order. I assume there are probably others for twitter/linkedin/etc.
