Can anyone in the know comment on what made Austin's legislators pass these laws in the first place?
- spilk 10y agoThere was actually a vote - the people enacted these laws.
- mark-ruwt 10y agoThat's actually backwards. The City created the laws, Uber/Lyft created "Proposition 1" to repeal them, and Austinites voted against the proposition.
- simonbw 10y agoI don't think that's quite true. I believe the legislators enacted the law, then there was an initiative to repeal the law that was voted down by the people.
- bogomipz 10y agoReally? Was there a referendum where the citizens of Austin were able to cast a ballot? Nobody I spoke with mentioned that.
- ViViDboarder 10y agoThe article included two signs asking people to vote each way. It's my understanding that a law was passed by legislators and then a vote was made to repeal or keep the law. The public voted in favor of keeping it.
- stanley 10y agoMaybe I asked the wrong question. What sparked the debate? Was there an incident or a series of events that propelled this law into existence?
