They don't need a backdoor. They take your phone and demand the key. If you don't give it you will never see your phone again. Do you think they just thumb through your emails or, being a government institution, plug it in and dump off everything on the phone while possibly installing a small app to help achieve that goal. It's not a conspiracy theory. They actually take physical control of your unlocked phone with the intent to search all of its data. The only question is do they do this electronically and are there any lasting effects on the device such as a leftover app they might have installed.
