I grew up near Detroit, and I am completely for more gun control then even what this administration has proposed. Those who argue that they need there guns to protect themselves and there families just don't get it. If you are ever attacked without notice, you are not gonna be prepared enough to grab your gun and prepare yourself. And honestly, if everyone has guns and everyones fires, no one is winning. Everyone having a weapon doesn't help anyone. I know some people argue that we can't trust the government to be the only ones to have guns, but realistically if a tyrannical leader ever came into power, they already have more firepower than any average american with a shotgun can protect against. The government needs soldiers, and if you trust the soldiers of this country to protect, then trust them not to enslave you.
